Syllabus & Curriculum


Hillwoods is a co-educational English medium school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi, an All-India Board; A large selection of subjects is offered –  Science or Commerce stream, giving students the widest possible opportunity to specialise in their chosen area of interest.

Senior Secondary

At the class X stage, students are prepared for the All-India C.B.S.E. Examination. English, Hindi, Social Studies (History, Civics and Geography), Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) are compulsory for all students.

In class XII, students sit for Senior School Certificate Examinations conducted by the Board. At this level, English is compulsory; and optional subjects may be selected from among the following, provided that they fall into a Science or a Commerce group : Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, History, Geography, Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts, Business Studies, Informatics Practices, Physical Education.

The studies are conceptual where students are not burdened with examination; their assessment is judged on the basis of overall performance with the main objective to make them excel in every field.

Keeping pace with the new era of Information Technology, the curriculum provides excellent avenues. Computer Science is the thrust area in every branch. It is aptly adapted wherever possible.

Middle

Students in the Middle school are on the threshold of serious learning. Our students are prepared for broader horizons. The teachers use innovative techniques for an effective and efficient teaching-learning experience. Computer aided learning is used frequently as a tool to reinforce learning. Stress is laid on comprehending concepts rather than rote learning. The system of continuous and comprehensive Evaluation is followed wherein students are graded on a seven point grading scale. Practicals in Maths and science and projects in social studies make learning a hands-on experience.

Primary

The primary wing curricula has been so designed to meet the needs for growing up children  and prepare them to enter the middle section as all rounder. The curriculum caters to their physical and mental abilities with special emphasis on personality development. We at the institution strictly adhere to all the guidelines prescribed by C.B.S.E. and keep up with the changing trends so as to nurture both cognitive and holistic development. We work as education and facilitates both to develops the young minds with innovative methods and computer aided learning. The curriculum is designed in a way which is both  fun-loving and challenging for the little ones.  At this stage no final exams are conducted  but the performance is assessed on day –to- day basis The grading is continuous and comprehensive to keep the students stress  free

 

School Evaluation System

The school follows the continuous and comprehensive evaluation system till class VIII.Unit test are conducted once in a week. Students are graded according to the seven point grading system as prescribed by the CBSC In the Senior section (IX – XII) along with the unit tests a half yearly and an Annual Exams is conducted to assess the students progress throughout the academic year. The syllabi and the evaluation is followed as per the rule and norms prescribed by the C.B.S.C.

Language

The medium of instruction and communication is English throughout the School. Fluency in English is considered as a vital requirement for all. Students leaving the school wish to join institutions and colleges in various parts of the country and the world and English gives them access to modern knowledge not yet readily available in Indian languages, particularly in the areas of Science and Technology.

Yet, Hindi being the national language, holds a very important place in the curriculum. Every effort is made to ensure that each child attains a high standard in it.

To fulfil the Board requirements, a third language Sanskrit is taught in classes VI, VII and VIII.
