Workshop Conducted for CCE |
No one can disagree that evaluation should act as a positive input for improving learning process and not as a deterrent. The report card of evaluation should reflect not only the scholastic aspects of the learner, but also life skills acquisition, personality attributes, behaviors interest, attitudes, values and proficiency in co-curricular activities. It should develop in students the ability to take risks, to be adaptable , to be flexible, to cope with constant change and become life long learners and dynamic leaders.
To meet the need of above type of holistic assessment of learner, CBSE has introduced a format of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation system including essential dimension of school based assessment suggesting grading system.
To weave parents in this developmental process of assessment so that they can also act as active partners in realizing the potential of their children and to engage in a dialogue with parents to bring home to them the context and meaning of CCE , a two hour long workshop was organized by the school on 14 Nov. 2009 with the hope that parents will appreciate the need of holistic assessment and encourage their children to develop skills in all area.
It was briefed to the parents and students by the school that not only cognitive development but development in psychomotor and affective domain of students will also be aimed in the future along with CCE by the school.

SPEECH DEFECTS IN CHILDREN- IDENTIFICATION AND CURE |
A Workshop by Ms. Ruchika
21st November’2009
A workshop for all the teachers of the pre-primary and primary section was conducted by Ms. Ruchika. It was an interesting and very informative one as it will help teachers identify speech defects and thereby lead to their timely cure.
- TYPES OF SPEECH DEFECTS :
Misarticulation, Stammering and Cleft lip and Palate.
* Effects of these defects:
Isolation , Feeling of shame, inability to participate in classroom activities and development of an inferiority complex.
* The Teacher’s Role:
The teacher can play a major role in helping the child overcome the problem. Motivation , Encouragement, Involvement in group activities , Positive Reinforcement , Sensitization of other class fellows and timely communication with parents- all this will go a long way.
* The Therapy -
The process of correction is usually a long one. It requires a joint effort of all – the therapist- the parents – the child and his teacher.
Therapy involves the use of several teaching aids. This will vary from individual to individual depending on his requirements.
The workshop concluded with an interaction between the audience and the expert.
Teacher had several queries regarding the process of identification , the possible causes of such defects , normal milestones in speech development and follow up after identification.
The expert satisfied all these queries.
Teachers have been asked to identify and refer cases to Ms. Ruchika who will work with them on specific days of the week.
Workshop like these will help teachers make a qualitative difference to the classroom.
Once Ms. Ruchika starts therapy, it’ll be helpful if she briefs the concerned teachers on how to work on the child in the class. This will help speed up recovery.

ORIENTATION CEREMONY
|
“What a Sculptor is to a block of marble, education is to human soul”.
As the beauty of a block of marble can be realized when it is transformed into a sculpture, in the same way education plays an important role in reflecting the inner beauty and talent of a human being. For the implementation of this great thought, orientation for the parents whose wards have been enrolled for the new session 2009-10 was held. Role of education in the holistic development of a child was highlighted by the headmistress, Ms. Ray. They were asked to prepare their children to step into a new phase of life with confidence, positive attitude and determination so that they could shine. The parents were informed about the curriculum and the activities to be carried through out the year. The parents were asked to cooperate for abiding the rules and regulations of the school and to make their wards disciplined. |

FUN LOVING PATHSHALA
|
|
The Academic year came to an end, with the final assessments getting over, and started a month long vacation. Students were all excited to enjoy the holidays when their teachers thought of channelising their energy into something very positive by arranging a creative workshop for one week from 12/03/09 to 19/03/09. The workshop aimed at providing information as well as recreation. An array of activities were held in these days like music, dance, yoga, art and craft, sketching, library, abacus, dramatics. It was just like “ you name it and we have them.”
Each day started with the morning assembly followed by yoga classes to help them to sharpen their concentration. There was a student’s library to inculcate reading habits in them. Art and craft classes gave shapes and colours to their budding thoughts. Music classes helped them master some ragas. In dance classes, they learnt some classical and folk movement. Dramatics classes by “Helen O Grady” Drama Academy helped them to give words to their thoughts. Emphasis were given on theatrical expressions and voice modulation. It was an invigorating experience. Abacus classes helped the students to get rid of Mathsphobia.
On the last day, students were given certificates of appreciation which they had learnt making from hand made paper. Students whole heartedly enjoyed the workshop and were a little sad when their week long creative expedition came to an end but were all geared up for more such projects in future. A huge response from the parents in the form of their letters of appreciation gave us the strength and vision to organize such projects in future.
